The Retro Riser System is one of the
most practical and economical sub-irrigation systems available to day!
Here are some reasons you should be using this system!

  • It's so easy to use. No hidden fill tubes or guessing how full the reservoirs are.

  • Setup is a snap! There is NO REPOTTING! You just insert the wick into the plant, and set it on the Retro Riser in a water tight container.

  • Your plant will thrive on this system. Sub-irrigation with Retro Riser will allow the plant to retain some pockets of air, which are essential for the respiration of the plant

  • The time and money you save on plant replacement and service by using Retro Riser can be used to improve you company.

This is a Common Sense Approach to Sub-Irrigation !

Application Notes

Retro Riser are supplied in three heights
to fit properly into your decorative container.
1 inch - 1½ inch - 2 inch

This allows the user to select the proper height to fit the plant into the decorative container.
To find the correct size choose the size that makes the top of the growers container even with the decorative containers top rim. The size of the riser has little to do with how the system works. The height of the plant in the decorative container is determined by the size of the riser.

Retro Riser's apply a simple interlocking design that allows the user to create an unlimited number of new designs to fit the containers. Various notches along both edges of the Retro Riser allow them to be snugly slipped together. To ease assembly, simply slide the back of one of the risers through the other riser's notch. Continue adding Retro Risers to your design as needed to support the plants. Most 10" plants need only two Retro Risers in a X-shape, heavier plants should have at least three Retro Risers in a triangle shape. Experiment, an infinite number of shapes and sizes can be created.

Various methods can be applied for smaller container applications

  • Bend two Retro Risers at the center notch and interlock the end notches to form a diamond shape. The shape will adjust itself to the bottom of the container.

  • Cut the Retro Riser at the center notch with a pair of pruners to form mini risers for containers under eight inches.

  • Mini Risers are now available in packages of 100 and are great for flowering plants.

Using the Retro Riser System

The Retro Riser system uses a capillary wick which is inserted upward at a 45º angle through the drainage hole of the growers container. Just aim as if you were going for the heart of the root ball when inserting the wick for the best distribution of moisture. The wicks have a hooded top so that the user can hook the wick onto the end of the Retro Jammer. This way one hand can be used to insert the wick and the other hand can hold the plant. The wicks should hang out of the bottom of the grow container at least 3 to 4 inches and reach the lowest part of the reservoir. Some customers pre-soak their wicks to insure the wick is evenly moist at the time of installation.

The needs of the plant should determine the water level in the reservoir. The water in the reservoir can go over the top of the risers as long as all the water is used on the next visit. When filling the reservoir, the water can be poured between the growers' container and the decorative container to the necessary level needed to last between watering. For ideal conditions, the wick should be slightly moist and the reservoir almost dry at time of watering. If the wick dries out, you must re-prime the wick by top watering the plant through the soil.
